The French extreme music scene has come on leaps and bounds since I first heard a French band called Trust. After their 1980 album 'Repression' was released Trust were touted as the next big thing and the band that would put French extreme music on the map, the song 'Paris Is Still Burning' still gets a regular airing on the show even after all these years. Alas, for one reason or another, Trust never really made it but one band that is certainly carrying the mantle is The Chris Rolling Squad. Their latest album 'Damn You All To... Hell' has now been released and it's ferocious. Abrasive punk rock and roll riffs spraying spittle in your face have scoured away most of the predominantly blues based sounds of earlier albums and a metal undercurrent intensifies the anger, giving a much heavier feel to the mix. The recording is pretty spot on. You can taste the sleaze and feel it oozing through your fingers all awhile the collection of songs rampage through your hearing like a gang of cutthroats.
